Last night, in the Sala Belle Arti, in the Hotel Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria, in Rome, the ceremony for the celebration of the second year of life of the "Bambino Gesù del Cairo onlus" Association, inaugurated on 21 July 2020.
The greeting of Omar Obaid Al-Shamsi, ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Italy, started the party. He illustrated the Association's initiatives, underlining the importance of Pope Francis’s visit to the United Arab Emirates and the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity. This was followed by the intervention of Msgr. Yoannis Lahzi Gaid, former personal secretary of Pope Bergoglio, president of the " Bambino Gesù of Cairo" Association, who introduced the Ambassador of Egypt to the Vatican, Mahmoud Talaat, who appreciated the humanitarian initiative of the Association. Bishop Lazhi Gaid said: "I am the son of Egypt and Italy. I thank everyone for giving us the opportunity to keep the flame of our mission alive and for working towards the realization of this dream”.
Mgr Gaid then presented the activities that the Association has carried out in these two years, documented by the screening of the videos, including the video entitled "Not gifts, but tiles". In addition, a charitable solidarity auction was carried out, organized by partner Alberto Zambon and, subsequently, the Memorandum was signed with the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation.
Numerous illustrious guests took part in the evening, including Card. Marcello Semeraro, prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, Magbi Yacoub, president of the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, Antonio Zanardi, ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the Holy See, Massimiliano Raponi, medical director of the Bambino Gesù Hospital, Hugo Patrick Doyle , head of International Public Affairs at Intesa Sanpaolo, Alessandro Cassinis, general auditor of the Holy See, the tenor Francesco Grollo, the journalist Biagio Maimone of the Communication Department and the singer-songwriter Fabrizio Venturi, artistic director of the Sanremo 2023 Christian Song Festival.
The "Bambino Gesù of Cairo" Association, established in accordance with the contents of the Document on "Human Fraternity", signed on February 4, 2019, in Abu Dhabi, by Pope Francis and the grand imam of Al-Azhar Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, aims to protect children in need of assistance. To this end, in Egypt, he initiated the construction of the "Oasi della Pietà" Orphanage and the "Bambino Gesù Women's and Children's Hospital".
