A memorandum of understanding was signed today at Casa Santa Marta, in the Vatican, to promote specialist training activities for Egyptian doctors and healthcare workers and to create scientific collaboration between the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS and the "Bambino Gesù del Cairo" Association.
The signature is part of the "Salus Project" that the Association is promoting in Egypt and in the countries where it provides relief and humanitarian aid.
The signing of the memorandum by the President of the Policlinico Gemelli Daniele Franco and Monsignor Yoannis Lazhi Gaid, president of the Association, took place on the sidelines of the blessing by the Holy Father of two mobile clinics of the "Salus project" intended for sick children and their families in Egypt. Present were an Egyptian delegation, the President of the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome, the President of the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS, the President of the Italian company RI Group, the President of the Hospitals Without Borders Foundation, the President of the Human Fraternity Foundation in Egypt, representatives of the Teladoc Society and the Butterfly Society and some members and benefactors who contributed to this initiative.
The Agostino Gemelli University Hospital Foundation is a non-profit organization, established by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart and the Giuseppe Toniolo Institute of Higher Studies and pursues, in accordance with the principles of Catholic doctrine, the purpose of protecting the human person in the field of scientific research and innovation in the biomedical and healthcare fields, both clinical and transactional and in the field of healthcare and training. The Foundation owns and manages the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital, a highly specialized hospital of national importance.
The "Bambino Gesù del Cairo" Association is a non-profit charity, whose President is Monsignor Yoannis Lahzi Gaid, former Secretary of His Holiness Pope Francis, which operates in Italy and abroad, to convert the principle of brotherhood into actions of solidarity and is inspired by the contents of the Document on "Human Brotherhood for World Peace and Living Together", desired by His Holiness Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, signed by both on February 4, 2019, in the city of Abu Dhabi. The "Bambino Gesù del Cairo" Association, whose slogan is "Unite all to serve all", aimed at both Christians and non-Christians, was founded in 2019 and is made up of a group of people, ecclesiastical and lay, who want to help those in need and, in particular, children abandoned by their families and orphaned children, born without the right to receive a caress, a hug, a real opportunity to grow, to attend schools, to receive medical care and above all to feel loved.
